NEW versus USED
What is best? Unfortunately it is all down to personal preference, do you want something shinny and new, being new gives you reliability and warranty or do you save some money and over look that the paint is a little dull or has some other blemishes on it…?
We can now narrow the gap for you, not only do we have probably the largest selection of used mast climbing equipment, both in numbers and manufacturers, we can offer you a unit at three different levels of condition.
Our fully rebuilt units are just that, every nut and bolt, every piece of cable, every component is removed, cleaned, repaired or replaced and repainted in either its original colors or the colors of your choice. (please no pink platforms!....)
Then the choice is easy, save money or pay full price!!!!!
We not only have complete units, but also parts, components and accessories, from the bottom limit ramps, mast bolts, electrical plugs to mast sections and pedestal bases.
What to look for in a used machine.
Firstly and most importantly, who are you buying from, this will tell you a lot about the equipment. Look at the support, do they offer training, do they have manuals and paperwork, can they supply additional equipment if you need it, do they offer technical support and if it all goes wrong will they help?
If you are happy with your prospective seller, look at the unit, you can check with the manufacturer on our web page, make sure the specs meet your criteria, if you need help on tracking down a particular make or model, call us, we have one of the largest libraries of literature on mastclimbers available, both current and past models.
Now you need to answer the following
- Gas or electric power?
- Light, medium or heavy capacity?
- Pedestal base, mobile chassis, self propelled chassis?
- Single, twin or triple masts?
- Any preferred manufacturer?
- How high will you be working?
OK, so you are well on the way to deciding what you want, but remember that what you want, isn’t always what is available….. so be flexible.
If you choose a rack an pinion unit, the masts and racks can tell a story of how the units have been used, If you choose a gas powered unit, make sure the power pack works under load, not just runs.
Check the electrics and make sure that safety circuits haven’t been bridged or wired out of the circuit and check the mounting brackets of the gearboxes or pumps.
On certain types of older mast sections the coating on the masts were very inadequate and suffered internal oxidization, if you stand the mast up – check if anything comes out. If in any doubt, find out, you can get the masts and decks checked for wall thickness to make sure that the structure of the mast has not been compromised.
A good supplier can offer you choices and options on your purchase, If it is something new to you, could you try the unit on a rental program first, with an option to buy later? If you are buying for a specific project, is a buy back option available? These will both be only slightly more expensive options, but will give you the better options.
The best price is always for the out right purchase, but please don’t get hung up on just the price, look at the total package and get references from previous customers.
But please remember when working at height –get trained and stay safe. – Safety is no accident.
